The Birmingham Spinal Clinic specialist in assessment, treatment and surgery for spinal disease & conditions

Who are The Birmingham Spinal Clinic?

The Birmingham Spinal Clinic was founded in 2007 to provide specialist spinal services within the private sector. The founding surgeon, Mr Andre Jackowski, a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, was joined in 2008 by Mr Mushtaque Ishaque, a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon. Both Mr Jackowski and Mr Ishaque are full time spinal surgeons whose private practice mirrors their NHS practice.

Mr Jackowski and Mr Ishaque work side by side in the NHS in The Birmingham Spinal Centre at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham.

Mr Jackowski and Mr Ishaque are fully accredited spinal surgeons, who are recognised in their field both nationally and internationally.
Mr Jackowski has held senior committee posts on both national and international spinal societies and has been President of the British Cervical Spine Society. He is currently Treasurer of the European Cervical Spine Society. He has also successfully designed several spinal implants.

Mr Ishaque has lectured both nationally and internationally on degenerative disc disease and the genetic contribution to it. He holds a Hunterian Professorship at The Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Robert Jones Gold Medal from The British Orthopaedic Association in recognition of his work.

The Birmingham Spinal Clinic provides specialist spinal services in the form of initial assessment, organization of relevant investigations, timely follow up and definitive treatment.

Our surgical expertise is in the management of degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, which can present as neck pain with or without arm pain as well as back pain with or without leg pain.

We also have expertise in the management of more complex spinal conditions such as spinal tumours, adult degenerative scoliosis and adult spinal deformity.

Being fully trained and accredited spinal surgeons we can provide the full range of surgical options available to the patient, both established and novel.

Why choose The Birmingham Spinal Clinic?

Both Mr Jackowski and Mr Ishaque believe that it very important that when you choose you surgeon you should be able to ask the following question
“What percentage of your NHS practice is spinal?”

For Mr Jackowski and Mr Ishaque the answer is 100%.

Mr Ishaque originally qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon and Mr Jackowski as a neurosurgeon however, Mr Ishaque no longer operates on general orthopaedics and Mr Jackowski no longer performs intracranial surgery. They have dedicated there surgical expertise purely to the spine.
